  1. i like to have the same breakfast as often as possible. also, i like to eat old food in the fridge to see if my stomach can handle it.

  2. Oh, thanks for sharing! I hope more people do. I find quirks so interesting. Old food to see if stomach can handle it! That’s too funny. I ate salami, A and 1 Sauce, cream cheese sandwiches every day for lunch as a high school freshman. 🙂 Sam

  3. OMG did you spy on me…
    I have so many quirks,like i have to sit my back towards wall even in restaurents,infact i am extremly uneasy if i have to sit people behind my back..one of the reasons why i was a back bencher.
    i dislike eating with spoon and prefer fork
    same with pillows and blankets..whenever i go out i am not able to sleep properly….Oh man the list is so long..in fact Bonita is far more accomodating than me…
    i dont tell these to other people cos you know how they will react…
    list of quirks for the quirky me 🙂

    1. This was in my spam??? Just found it. Glad I checked. You must have used “spammy” words! I like to be in booths so now one can see me! I prefer forks, too! I bring my pillow and blankie to me to hotels! Too funny! Hugs. 🙂 Sam

  4. OMG…i’m the most anal-retentive person when it comes to food…lol…for sure, food has to be separate from each other on my plate…no sugar in my coffee and always with 2% milk…no artificially flavored creamers for me…peanut butter and other spreads have to be fat-free or “reduced fat” or light…bread should always be with oats or multigrain, extra light olive oil for cooking…must have at least 1 kind of fruit and green veggies at all times in the fridge…not a chocolate or cake person but if i’m obsessing on these kinds of treats…chocolate bar must be coconut flavored or has to have fruits and dark…cake has to be cheesecake only without any toppings…absolutely no sodas for me…very particular with the arrangement of stuff in my bathroom, closet, kitchen drawers, bath towels, and yes…toilet roll has to be outward at all times…always have to have 1 extra roll on hand (just incase)…soap and hot water necessary at all times…lol…have to use cotton swabs to clean ears after bath or shower (always)…omg…i got plenty to list…too many rituals 🙂 🙂 🙂 thanks for sharing your quirks, Sam 🙂 glad i’m not alone 🙂 🙂

    1. These are not all my quirks! lol. It’s a list of possible quirks people might have. I have most of these, but not all. lol 🙂

      Thanks for sharing your quirks. You sound like you like things very specific to taste. Maybe you were a princess in your last life! So fun reading your list. Thanks for sharing.
      Hugs, Sam

  5. This is odd, nut I tongue tap while driving….I tap my teeth when in a traffic jam in rhythmn with cars coming from the other direction….tap on their doors and spaces in between….:)

    1. Just to be clear, this is a list I compiled of quirks. They are not all my quirks! OMG! People are thinking that. lol. I do mouth noises too. I slide my jaw back and forth so my teeth click fast. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  6. We have many of the same quirks!

    With food, I always have to have food separated, and plain. No condiments. I will eat things like lettuce or tomato on a burger or something, but that is it.

    I count and add everything; I need everything to “even” out. I will divide a number until I get a nice remainder, the remainder does not have to an even number.

    Run; sometimes gag at peanut butter, nuts, brussel sprouts, any sticky gooey substance, like honey. Despise honey, molasses, pancake syrup, corn syrup, I guess syrupy stuff. I do mange to cook with it, or give it to the kids, but I have to hold my breath and wash my hands immediately.

    I brush my teeth for almost ten minutes each time. I cannot help it; I have to and always have. AND I brush them any and everywhere. When I worked, I brought toothbrushes with me and would brush my teeth. However, I do not like brushing my teeth in the bathroom because I find bathroom repulsive and try to get in and out of them as quickly as possible. I would walk around the break room, or the office area brushing away. At home, I brush them all throughout the house.

    My closet is organized according to Roy-G-Biv and by sleeve length, shirt style, pant style, skirt style; my shoes are organized by style and color as well.

    I will stop now before I cannot stop myself. 🙂

    1. I had to go back and make it clear. These are quirks I compiled. Not all mine, but most! lol. Thanks for sharing. It’s so fun to read your quirks. Love the teeth brushing one. I quirk of mine is I can’t stand bad breath! I don’t have to have my food separated. But eat my least favorites first. Gag on sticky stuff—that’s funny. Lots of light ~ Sam 🙂

      1. Oh, good I share with random others, so many wonderful quirks so little time. Quirkiness is a grand thing! OMG! Bad breath makes me freak out!!

        Ha ha ha “Gag on sticky stuff”

        Thanks for the light flow I really need it today!!

        ~~~~Light bright~~~ to you Shine!! Angel 🙂
  7. Yes, we all have quirks. OCD was my salvation and bane growing up (and well into my adult years). Nervous about anything new; had to do everything in 3s, 7s or, oh my, 9s (3 x 3s)! There were dozens of things. People who don’t have this or Asperger’s or something similar don’t understand this! I know because, when I had my stroke and my brain “reset”, a lot of my OCD went away. My daughter says I still have it (and I, but just so very little in comparison), but I feel so different. The compulsions are nearly gone and I can choose (almost always) to ignore them and, and live “normally” (whatever the heck that is).
    Love the post once again, Sam,
    Namaste,
    Scott
    1. Letting readers know this is not a list of my quirks. It’s a summary of what people might have. LOL People thought these were all mine. Then reading back, I’d have to say 80% are. But not all! Thank goodness. Interesting how the stroke reset the OCD. You’ve mentioned that before. I imagine that is a relief. I think my OCD gets better with age–something to do with hormone shifts, I bet. Thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed. My favorite number 3 and 7. Love 9 because 3 3’s! So relate.
      ~ Sam 🙂
  8. I do know this isn’t a list that is all YOUR quirks… but just sayin’, I loved it! I fit a good number of them. Quirkiness for the win! And numbres are fantastic. My favorite number game is to try to prime factor the time (eg: 9:24 = 924 = 308*3=154*2*3=77*2*2*3=7*11*2*2*3 = 2*2*3*7*11 = 924) before the clock changes. When I’m a passenger in the car on long car trips, that’s my activity. 🙂
    1. 🙂 Cool. You have a good mind for numbers. I add the numbers of addresses in my head.
      2246 = 2+2+4+6 = 4+10 = 4 + 1 + 0 = 5
      I’ve done this all my life. So now I can skip the steps and know that 1983 = 3 in a matter of a second or two. 🙂
      1. I used to do that, but now its too easy for me, hence the factoring. The other thing I used to do was try to make things all add up to each other, using basic operators… so for example, 2246: 2+6=2*4, or 1983: 3*3=9, 9-1-8, etc.
  9. “Number of pillows
    Hug or bundle blankets/pillow
    Sleep on certain side or in certain direction
    Bedroom door opened a certain distance or closed
    Arms and legs under the covers
    Lip balm applied before bed
    Flossing teeth
    Change music or turn music up louder, depending on who is nearby
    Certain blankie”
    1. You are so kind. Yes, I actually practiced as an intuitive for a year. My business was word of mouth, and I saw many people. I could tell a lot about a person upon first meeting. Got to be too much, as I was absorbing their “stuff” and energy. I am so sensitive to others. I can get much energy off of reading comments, too, and reading blogs. I have to avoid certain blogs. So you are spot on with the empathic part.
      On a lighter side, you do know those are not my quirks that I listed? Right? It is a random list. Everyone is thinking they are my quirks—and some of them are, but not all. lol Just to be clear. I’m weird but not super weird. lol
      Thanks for listing your quirks. It’s so fun to read and know more about others. I love when you comment and I love visiting your blog, and your love-filled music.
      I was going to write “Keep Shining”—then I looked up to see what you wrote (as I often try to match the intimacy of another’s last words (social norm thing) )
      Then I saw you wrote keep shining, too.
      That’s super.
      Keep Shining like a Bright Star
      Hugs and Love,
      Sam 🙂
      1. I AM THE SAME WAY WITH THE EMPATHY THING ——- BUT LAST YEAR – I KIND OF SLOWLY FOUND A WAY TO NOT TAKE EVERYTHING IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD INTO MY HEART ……! LOL
        I READ A FEW BOOKS – JUDITH ORLOF – DEALT WITH SOME OF MY OLD ISSUES …….
        FULL ON ACCEPTANCE OF ME …..
        NOW THAT TOOK ME UP UNTL THE BEGINNING OF 2012 …..
        WAY TOO LONG RIGHT ?
        SO FUNNY – CUZ I THOUGHT THOSE WERE YOUR QUIRKS ……
        SEE – WAS READING TOO FAST …..
        BAD CAT !!!! LOL
        I SLIP INTO THAT PATTERN SOMETIMES – OF DOING THINGS TOO QUICKLY ……
        WHEN – MY FULL ON BEST MOMENTS ARE WHEN I AM CALM ………………
        LIKE RIGHT NOW 🙂 ……..
        I HAVE SO MUCH PRACTICE TO DO !!!!!
        AND SAM …..
        “to match the intimacy of another’s last words ”
        THAT IS SOOOOO BRILLIANT
        THAT IS A POEM OR ESSAY – FIGURATIVE OR LITERAL – RIGHT THERE ….. WOWZA !!!!!!!!
        SUPER GLAD WE MET 🙂
        BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY PRECIOUS MOMENTS SUCH AS THESE ……..
        THAT MAKE CONNECTING SOOOOOOOO WORTH IT 🙂
  10. Yes, yes, I understand – they are not all yours! But the more I read here, the more I see myself. And like the title of this post, “when you’re strange” it’s left me feeling that way (and the Doors song is now stuck in my head, thanks…)
    I love your posts. They are so funny and so relatable for me. And you seem to be opening doors for me that were closed and sealed for a long time.
    I’ve always been a little what I termed OCD. But I think there’s more than that when I think back on my own childhood (which I don’t like to think back on). I always separated m&ms by color and ate the ugly brown ones first and then my least favorite to most favorite color. Everything I do must total the number 8. I will read license plates, gas prices (have to stop on something totaling 8), count change to total or be divisible or multiplied or subtracted to 8, never forget phone numbers, count stairs up and down and memorize the number of stairs on any flight, must have a beverage to eat (or my own form of meltdown), eat mostly the same food every day, organize my closet by color, fabric, etc (same with shoes), and the toilet paper must be facing the correct way – I will even change it in a public rest room (which I avoid except for the ugly necessity of taking the child!)…
    Are these quirks just OCD or are you saying this may relate to Asperger’s?
    1. These are common quirks many people have. Not related to the autistic spectrum. It is a post that is trying to say we all have quirks, we are all not “normal,” we are all strange. I think we all have degress of OCD, probably based on genetics, diet, environment, and childhood — maybe our soul’s journey, too. Thanks for sharing some of your quirks. Do those traits help you in your career? I would think they would. Great hearing from you. 🙂 Sam
  11. Hee! Lovely list! This was my favorite:
    “Food aversions, like running away from bananas”
    Yes! Bananas=yuck unless you use equal parts banana and peanut butter.
    You made me realize that my food, bed and organizing quirks are the most salient. How lovely to read so many comments who share oddities! 🙂
    Lori
  12. Aspergers too – I have to eat my vegetables first, then (generally) protien, followed by the carbohydrates…
    Always memorise the liscense plate of someone I know if I see them…
    I have to be certain about something…if I’m not certain I keep checking and bugging people.
    I always have to have sharp pencils if I’m going to write something – I go through pencils quite quickly…
    1. I eat my least favorites first. Sometimes I debate in my mind about which ones those are. lol!
      Yes, must be certain. And I bug all the time. I have to have a certain type of pen. Hugs, Sam 🙂
  13. Ok – I counted 40 of the above 😦 The one that bugs my husband – having to use the same colour pegs on each corner of a garment hung out to dry – can’t bear mixing. I bought wooden pegs instead…. and anthropomorphising objects…. counting steps when walking, tiles or anything else available or doing mental maths when waiting …
  14. I chew on my hair. And my nails. And fabric. Pretty much anything chewable. xD
    I also avoid handshakes (or wash my hands after one), wash my hands a BIT too much (WAY TOO MUCH), and use lots of hand sanitizer. xD
    Also, I pick at my hair constantly. Ugh, I sound so nutty… 😮
    1. Oh, I count my steps when I walk, too. Not always, but frequently. And ah, the straight pictures… so irritating!
      Also, whenever I try to organize… I get really caught up on the little things… like single drawers and such. Which is why my room is such a mess. xD Whenever I clean it, I get distracted by details.
      1. hehe. 🙂 Thanks for sharing Amber Raven. I could list quite a few things I do myself. Great to be able to smile at ourselves. 🙂 Thanks for the visit.
  15. It is so freaky to read about myself in a list such as this, and a few really struck me as humorous simply because I had no idea these quirks are typical of aspergers. I have never even tasted beets because they are too red. I always eat the crust of a sandwich first in order to save the best for last (a combo of 2 food quirks), and would never let any body part hang over the edge of my bed (as a child I thought someone under the bed would use a chainsaw to chop off the errant part flush with the edge of the mattress). Very interesting!
